1Password 6.8: The Picnic Edition

It’s summertime for us here in the northern hemisphere and that means it’s time to grab a blanket, a basket full of goodies, and head out for a picnic! We packed a number of great treats into today’s update, so settle back and tuck in.

TL;DR

No need to run back to the store for that forgotten item

We’ve all been there: you unload all the food, get the burgers cooked and ready to eat, and then you realize you’ve forgotten the ketchup. That’s what it’s always felt like for us having to go back to copy our one-time passwords after we've filled a username and password. Now when you fill an item into your browser 1Password will automatically copy its one-time password to the clipboard for easy pasting.

We’ve had this feature in beta for a few months and we hope you love it as much as we do!

More containers for more organized goodies!

You can't keep your pickles and cheese in the same container. That's just gross - unless of course you like pickled cheese, then I won’t judge. Keeping all of your items in one vault can get almost as messy as pickled cheese. Now you can create new vaults for your 1Password account from within the app itself! The days of switching from the Mac app to the web app to create a new vault are over. Delicious, fresh, and totally convenient.

The fresher the menu, the better the picnic

They say variety is the spice of life. After all, not everyone loves egg salad, and having your choice of sandwiches at a picnic is a wonderful thing. So, with our latest update, we have added a brand new Account menu for you, so you can quickly get to all sorts of Account features from within the 1Password for Mac app. Creating a new vault is a delicious treat indeed, but you can also save your Emergency Kit and even add your account to other devices! Bon appetit!

The Renovation Edition

There comes a point in the lifespan of any app where it’s time to take a step back, admire all that’s been over the years, and take stock of the things that should be addressed before moving forward again. To take this metaphor in a different direction: before you can put that new addition on the house you need to shore up the foundation, reroute the wiring, and finally finish painting that room you’ve been putting off for too long now.

Today’s release of 1Password contains many of those types fixes and improvements - many that don’t even appear on this list here because they were marked as [INTERNAL] during the development cycle. Nonetheless we have a healthy list of improvements and fixes for you to peruse, as well as one very neat new feature you can see by holding down the Option key while clicking on the 1Password mini icon in the menu bar.

If you're looking to chat with us directly be sure to drop us a line at @1Password on Twitter or on Facebook at facebook.com/1Password. If you have questions or need support just pop on over to support.1password.com and we'll point you in the right direction.

6.6.1  (build #661010) – released 2017-02-23 – download

Good day, citizen! Today we're excited to release this update to 1Password that brings a number of improvements, bug fixes, some big under-the-hood changes, and some brand new Touch Bar capability. Enjoy!

Touch Bar Improvements

We’ve been experimenting with the new Touch Bar since the beginning and added Touch Bar support along with Touch ID back in November as soon as the new Macs were available.

Today we’re taking the next step and giving you the ability to customize your Strong Password Generator settings directly from your Touch Bar!

We're pretty excited about what we've been able to do with the Touch Bar so far, but we know there's even more we can accomplish. We'd love to hear your thoughts and opinions on what you'd like to see in the Touch Bar.

Happy Holidays, everyone! As the year draws to a close we wanted to push out one additional update that smooths over a couple more rough edges for you. Those of you syncing via iCloud and Dropbox who were setting up 1Password on your new Macs found our first-run experience more challenging than we would have liked. You'll be pleased to know we heard your feedback and have made some substantial improvements. Everyone here at AgileBits wishes you and yours a safe, happy, and secure holiday season, and a happy new year!

1Password never prompts you for a review because we value your workflow too much to interrupt it. If you feel in the holiday spirit or have a couple of minutes, please leave a review. It makes a huge difference to us. Thank you in advance!

Fantastic Secrets and Where to Find Them

TL;DR

Unlocking with your fingerprint is as easy as swish and flick

There’s no need to utter any incantations to magically unlock 1Password with your fingerprint. Just enable the Touch ID setting in 1Password’s Security Preferences and you’ll be good to go. No one will blame you if you quietly whisper “Alohamora” under your breath as you perform this charm, though.

Practice your wandless magic

The new Touch Bar is almost as awesome as picking up the latest offering at Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes (but without the fear factor). Now you can practice your wandless magic by switching between vaults with our new Touch Bar feature. You’ll be able to access your vaults faster than you can say “Wingardium Leviosa!”

Other incantations you can conjure with the Touch Bar include:

All aboard on Platform 9 3/4!

Setting up 1Password for the first time on a new Mac is now just like that first swig of Butterbeer: warm, inviting, and deliciously sweet! We’ve completely rewritten our first-run experience to make it easier than ever to get up and running with 1Password. Whether you’re signing into your 1Password.com account, syncing with your vault on iCloud or Dropbox, or getting started for the very first time, it’s a snap.

Accio your items from anywhere

Some of the best spells are done together so we’ve cooked up a love potion for those of you who make use of our third-party integration. We’ve been working closely with some of our developer friends to make sure you can search for items across all your vaults from within your productivity app of choice. Alfred has already released an update for this new integration and there are more to come!

More goodies than Bertie Bott’s has flavours!

Those are just the highlights, this release is packed full of over 100 new features, improvements, and fixes. 1Password never prompts you for a review because we value your workflow too much to interrupt it. If you feel generous or have a couple of minutes, please leave a review. It makes a huge difference to us. Thank you in advance!

1Password 6.3 : The Passion Project

TL;DR

Spring has sprung and passion is in the air. The birds are feeling it, the bees are feeling it and we are too! We have heard from some very passionate users who have inspired us to make a few key improvements, especially in VoiceOver, Large Type and browser support. We’re really excited about the features we were able to include in this release and hope you are too!

You get extension support, and YOU get extension support, and YOU…

There are new browsers getting created all the time, each with their own niche to serve. 1Password 6.3 added support for three such browsers: Vivaldi, Brave and Opera Developer. Vivaldi aims to be the most customizable of browsers (and is it ever!), and Brave is focused on security and privacy. And Opera Developer is for those who love to live on the edge. These browsers now integrate with 1Password, enabling you to log in to websites with ease.

Large Type

We love Large Type, and based on the feedback we’ve gotten, you do too! We received a lot of passionate pleas to anchor the Large Type window so that it doesn’t disappear so quickly. Now you can simply drag the window and it will transform itself into an anchored window that won’t disappear until you close it yourself or lock your vault.

We hear you

Accessibility has always been important to us. VoiceOver support is a key tool in making 1Password more accessible to more users. That is why in version 6.3, we have made it easier to navigate when using VoiceOver.

We love hearing from you! To provide feedback or get in touch with us, please join us in our discussion forums, email support@agilebits.com, send a message to @1Password on Twitter, or leave a comment on Facebook and tell us about the newest tricks you’ve learned

6.2.1  (build #621002) – released 2016-04-11 – download

Ah, spring. The time to sow seeds and shower them with love and care and well, water, so that we may expect a beautiful flowering in the months to come. Spring is also when those pesky weeds start poking their heads out of the soil. The joy of the garden is so much greater when they're all pulled, isn't it?

We sowed a few seeds and pulled a few weeds in your fabulous 1Password 6.2 garden and upgraded it to 6.2.1. You adventurous types will be happy to hear that we've added support for Safari Tech Preview. We also fixed an issue that occasionally caused QuickLook, viewing and exporting to fail when working with attachments. Webloc attachments will no longer cause 1Password to crash, sorry about that. Enjoy!

6.2  (build #620012) – released 2016-04-04 – download

The New Tricks Edition

You know what they say. “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks, but you can teach password managers new things.” We totally agree with that last part. Over the years, we’ve released many dozens of new versions, hundreds of betas, and approximately a gazillion improvements! That’s a lot of changes, and we’re not about to stop now. Without further ado, we present 1Password 6.2 for Mac: The New Tricks Edition.

More studying, bigger brain

Some of the coolest tricks 1Password performs, like automatically saving Logins or filling information on websites, come from the browser extension and the brain that powers it. Every once in a while the brain would come across a website it just didn’t understand. That’s when 1Password wouldn’t fill your information accurately. In an effort to improve, the brain sat down and studied all sorts of websites, and now its guesses are more educated than ever. As an added bonus, 1Password will now try to automatically name the Logins it creates.

First-class importing

Thanks to 1Password for Teams and Families, this is the sweetest time to try 1Password, especially if you’ve been using something else to safeguard your digital life. Our latest upgrades to the importer make it super simple to import your information from another application.

We’ve also improved the way 1Password for Mac and Families and Teams (oh my!) work together, the way 1Password mini behaves, and more!

We love hearing from you! To provide feedback or get in touch with us, please join us in our discussion forums, email support@agilebits.com, send a message to @1Password on Twitter, or leave a comment on Facebook and tell us about the newest tricks you’ve learned

6.1  (build #610005) – released 2016-03-01 – download

The Mini Delights Edition

Sometimes it’s the small things that give us the most joy: hearing our kids laugh, brewing the perfect pot of coffee or tea, lining our books up perfectly on their shelves. And sometimes, those small things combine into something truly delightful. That’s what 1Password 6.1 is all about: little things that come together to make one great update.

TL;DR

Many small improvements to make your life even better. See the full details below!

This is the Login you’re looking for

Part of the reason you use 1Password is to make it easy to find your login information, maybe even for thousands of sites and services. Things could get confusing if you had many usernames and passwords for the same site, though. Now you don’t have to worry! 1Password will display the Login’s username next to the title if you’ve used the same title more than once. Go on, sign up for all of the Slack teams you can handle.

Document smarter, not harder

If you’re a 1Password for Teams or 1Password Families member, you'll love this one! Now you can view a list of all of the files you're storing in 1Password using the brand new Documents category. You can link Documents to other items and add notes and custom fields, just like you can with other items. 1Password's here to help you to stay organized!

Let’s sync up

It’s important to have your 1Password data at your fingertips, no matter where you are or which device you’re using. That’s why we keep improving sync. This time around, we’ve made things more efficient so that 1Password mini can be even more responsive. We’ve also made some improvements to the iCloud experience in the AgileBits Store version of the app.

Teaching awesome software new tricks

Sometimes there’s nothing like starting over fresh. Whether you’re setting up your own new Mac (congratulations!) or starting over with a computer you’ve had for a while, things will be a little simpler: 1Password can find its own Software License item and register itself.

Get off to a good start

Since we were on an efficiency kick, we made the 1Password startup process simpler and more communicative. If something goes wrong when you launch the app, we’ve added ways for it to tell detect what’s going on and tell you about it.

More than meets the eye

These are just the highlights! If you’d like to see all of the action-packed goodness, check out the full release notes.

We love hearing from you! To provide feedback or get in touch with us, please join us in our discussion forums, email support@agilebits.com, send a message to @1Password on Twitter, or leave a comment on Facebook and tell us about the little things that bring you joy!

6.0  (build #600008) – released 2016-01-12 – download

The Force has awakened, rambunctious kittens have caused explosions of pine needles in living rooms, nog has been drunk. A new year has begun. Thank you for making 2015 so amazing! We look forward to celebrating another fantastic year with you.

Our first Mac release of 2016 is a doozy. We’re thrilled to introduce you to 1Password version 6.0! It’s chock full of features that you’ve requested, such as Teams, wordlist passwords, and a universal view of your vaults.

All Vaults

Multiple vaults are amazing for organizing and compartmentalizing your 1Password items, but it’s easy to lose track of what’s where. The new All Vaults feature is a customizable global view of all your vaults. Easily choose which vaults are included in the view. See all the information you want. See only the information you want.

Powered-Up Strong Password Generator

1Password can now generate passwords using real words that are easy to remember and type. Their randomness and length make them strong and secure.

iCloud Sync

Thanks to some pretty significant changes Apple made recently, we are now able to offer iCloud sync to customers who bought 1Password for Mac directly from the AgileBits Store. As you probably know, this was previously only available to Mac App Store customers, and we’re super excited to be able to offer it to everyone.

1Password for Teams

Add your 1Password for Teams vaults to 1Password. If you’ve never used 1Password before, it’s now easier than ever to set up 1Password for Teams on your Mac with a Teams-only mode available during setup.

We love to hear from you! Please join us in our discussion forums to provide feedback or get in touch with us at support@agilebits.com, @1Password on Twitter, and Facebook!

The Convenience Edition

1Password was created because the world needed an easier, more convenient way to stay secure in today’s technological landscape. In keeping with that tradition of convenience, we present to you an update designed to make your life a little less complicated!

Highlights Large type

If you’ve ever squinted at a password because you have to enter your it on a device without 1Password support, this is for you! 1Password for Mac now can now display passwords in Large Type to make them easier to read. Now it’s easy to look at your Mac and enter your password on an Apple TV or read your Wi-Fi password off to guests. Oh, and if your bank asks you for the 4th, 10th, and 12th digits of your passwords, you’ll be happy to see that we’ve numbered each character to make those easier for you to find.

Change secondary vault password

Almost nothing is forever, and now that includes your secondary vaults’ passwords in 1Password for Mac. Thanks for all of the requests for this feature!

Refined top layout

If you like to keep a classic-looking layout, you’ll be happy to know we’ve made some improvements based on your feedback. Your items’ Rich Icons will be displayed, you can add and remove columns, and 1Password will remember how you left things.

XARA

Using new tools available in the latest OS X update, we’ve redesigned the communication pathways between the 1Password browser extension and 1Password mini to ensure that your data stays secret and secure. We’ll have a blog post on this soon, so stay tuned to blog.agilebits.com for more details!

1Password never prompts you for a review because we value your workflow too much to interrupt it. If you feel generous or have a couple of minutes now that you don’t have to squint at your passwords, please leave a review. It makes a huge difference to us. Thank you in advance!

1Password 4.4 adds integration with 1Password Watchtower, our new free service that helps you keep your accounts and sensitive information safe.

When a website you use is found to be at risk, 1Password Watchtower will flag your Login as vulnerable. The Watchtower service is a component of our popular Security Audit feature, which shows you weak, duplicate, and old passwords found in your Vault. With the addition of Watchtower, you can now also see all vulnerable sites in one place, then begin updating your passwords to secure your accounts.

When enabled, the 1Password Watchtower service regularly downloads a list of vulnerable domains. Your personal information is never transmitted.
